Eric M. Goldberg, PT, DPT, CMDT, CSCS, Director of Physical Therapy

I became a physical therapist due to the influence from a physical therapist that helped me recover my function after a chronic knee issue and subsequent surgery when I was 16. At the time, I was already involved in weight training and enjoyed working out hard and pushing myself. I quickly learned the value of pushing myself hard.

However, due to my knee pain, I was unable to exercise my knee and eventually required surgery. I knew instinctively that the answer to my knee problem was based in exercise but I just didn't know how or what to do. As a result, my doctor prescribed for me PT. My PT showed me how to exercise my knee in a safe and effective way and to not fear the pain felt during my rehab, which was a different pain than I felt prior to my surgery. This led me to a complete recovery that changed my life.

Through my lifelong passion of personal and professional exercise experience and working with tens of thousands of patients of all ages and with all types of conditions, the following is by far the most impactful lesson I have learned:

Nothing has a greater positive impact on pain, healing and outcome than appropriately prescribed exercise selection, intensity and progression.

The person that has little fear of pain and willingly accepts discomfort as part of the rehab process almost always without fail completely recovers.
